A Multi-Method Observation System
The CSAS is a multi-method classroom observational system for measuring, developing, and supporting evidence-based instructional and classroom behavioral management practices in classrooms. As a collaborative formative assessment approach, the CSAS enhances professional development conversations between instructional leaders and their teachers by asking the following questions:

-
What evidence-based practices are teachers using in their classrooms?
-
Are these classroom practices effective?
-
If yes, how can we support their continued use?
-
If no, what classroom practice changes can teachers make to enhance their effectiveness?
-
How can we support this change process and help teachers sustain practice improvements?

By orienting educators to these questions, the CSAS promotes a shared understanding and dialogue about the elements of effective teaching that leads to a collaborative process for identifying practice goals and enhancing teachers' classroom practices.
